Two members of the United Auto Workers discuss their support of the Occupy movement. "We are not auto workers," one of them them explained. They are part of the National Organization of Legal Services Workers, which is Local 2320 of the UAW. According to their web site, members of this local represent "the majority of those who work in federally-funded legal services programs across the USA."
They were at Occupy Chicago's Saturday march and rally they called Chicago Spring.
I proceeded to ask them if the federal bailouts--while reminding them that I was aware that they weren't auto workers--was something they support. As one of them was being warned about what a horrible person was, the other replied, "No." Which is ironic because their union was a significant beneficiary in the General Motors and Chrysler bailouts. Bankruptcy law was upended in the Chrysler bailout to benefit the UAW--which owns 41 percent of Chrysler. The GM bailout wasn't as egregiously awful, but it now owns about 10 percent of the car manufacturer.
Had they not been chased away--my line of questioning would have headed in that direction.
