FBN: Democratic rep rips Quinn's tax increase

Rep. Jack Franks (D-Woodstock) appeared on the Fox Business Network this morning where he tore into Illinois' 66 percent personal income tax hike that was signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn. Franks was one of the few Democrats--my state senator, Ira Silverstein was another--who voted against the increase. No Republicans supported it.

Calling his "No" vote "an easy decision for me," Franks adds, "This is actually a spending increase. This bill increases spending in the state of Illinois by 16 percent in the next four years."

There is more bad news. "Four years from now," Franks warns, "We'll be asking for another tax increase. We just can't help ourselves." I hope he's wrong, but I doubt it.

On a side note, one of the FBN panelists for this segment is Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, who formed a presidential exploratory committee last week.

He "applauds" Franks resoluteness.

So do I.

Meanwhile the New York Times, wrong as usual, just loves the fact I'll be sending more cash into the Springfield sinkhole.

UPDATE 5:30pm: Cal Skinner, a former Republican representative from McHenry County, comparers Franks to another northwest suburban politician, freshman congressman Joe Walsh, who is also a Republican. Walsh, who has had financial struggles recently, is paying for his own health insurance and will not accept a federal pension if he becomes eligible for one. As for millionaire Franks, he replied, "I don’t know, good question" when asked what he'll do when he becomes eligible for his state pension.
