Merry Christmas from the Heartland

Merry Christmas, everyone. May you and your family enjoy the holiday season.

About the photograph: The tree was of the Very Elvis Christmas exhibit for the 2008 holiday season at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch, Iowa. Hoover was born in the eastern Iowa village in 1874.

Yes, there was a special exhibit, even though Hoover and Presley had very little in common.

Herbert Hoover
But our 31st president was blessed with the Christmas spirit of helping the less fortunate. During World War I and for a few years afterwards, Hoover led famine relief efforts in Europe. It was his idea to start a school lunch program in occupied Germany after the end of the Second World War.

His presidency was not successful, but he was a great man and a patriotic American.

Merry Christmas from America's Heartland to the rest of the world.
