Illinois: Worst state for retirement

Welcome to the worst place to retire
Today's post from ThirdWaveDave alerted me to something that I should have conceptualized by now. My job puts me in contact with a lot of senior citizens--and do you know what? I've never met anyone who has chosen Illinois as their home when they retire. Oh, sure, there are many old people here, and they fall into two categories: They lived here the day before they retired, or family ties brought them to the Land of Lincoln in their sunset years.

So it's no surprise to learn that according to according to Top Retirements.com, Illinois is the worst state to live in while retired. It edged out California, because the Tarnished State has better weather.

High tax burdens and under-funded public-sector pensions are put most of the states in the Top Ten. Click here to see the list.

Enjoy your #1 status because you won't have it for long. When the bottom finally falls out in California, we'll be taking the trophy home.

Look, we all know that California is going to take the prize (it already does, if you know what I mean, but don't close your eyes because Florida is ready to overtake you.

Closing in for the trophy: the sunshine state!
