For the most part, Kayenta's dogs are abandoned pets or descendants of them. Many have health problems. One sad pup we after our morning trip to Monument Valley appeared to have two broken hind-legs. It walked, albeit very slowly, with its rump dragging in the sand.
Kayenta has just 5,000 residents, with no other towns nearby. But it has an animal shelter, a rarity for an isolated town of its size. Occasional spaying and neutering campaigns take place there.
Little Marathon Pundit named each of these dogs. That's "Kayenta" on the upper left, "Hampton" on the upper right, and "Ariz" on the lower right.
But be careful if you are in Kayenta. Like people, some dogs can be mean.
