Not even the most Pollyanna-ish Democrat is claiming the Democrats will gain House or Senate seats this fall--it's just a matter of how bad it will be for the majority party--and they may not be a majority party next year.
Which is why they plan lame duck session chicanery after this fall's bruising (for them) elections. One moldy-piece-of-cheese-legislation is the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, an anti-jobs stink bomb.
The Workforce Fairness Institute has created a "one-stop shop" for voters and businesses who don't want sneaky petition drives, known as card check, that will unionize workers--and fill Democratic campaign coffers with more new union dues cash, despite the fact that 40 percent of AFL-CIO members vote Republican.
Union-lackey Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) has suggested moving on EFCA after Election Day. Luckily for voters, they can express their disapproval of EFCA during town hall meetings this fall.
But the Dems know that the end of the year could be their last chance to pass EFCA. As of now they will be defending 23 seats in 2012, the Republicans only have 10 to worry about.
Of course they could try to pass it before Election Day, but they fear a voter backlash. Why? Because EFCA is toxic.
