Another "Blackie" eye for Giannoulias

I'm a little late to the party on this one, but I've been spending a lot of time on blog-related research.

Yesterday the owner of the Boston Blackie's restaurant chain, Nick Giannis, was captured at the Canadian border with his Greek passport--apparently he was trying to flee check-kiting charges.

Also charged in the scheme, but found nowhere near the border, was Giannis' son, Chris, and a Blackie's manager, Andy Bakopoulos.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the trio allegedly "defrauded Charter One and Washington Mutual banks of nearly $2 million, according to Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez, who called the scheme 'sophisticated' and 'complex.'

Over the years the elder Giannis contributed almost $120,000 to the political campaigns of Democratic US Senate nominee Alexi Giannoulias, which the campaign will donate to charity.

These bank fraud charges will only remind voters of the problems of the Giannoulias family's financially-ailing Broadway Bank.
