Release the Chicago Annenberg Challenge files now!

This is a story I'll be keeping a close eye on. Once again, my alma mater, the University of Illinois, is embarrassing itself. Barack Obama was the chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Project from 1995 until 1998--he remained on its board for another three years.

From AP:

The University of Illinois on Tuesday refused to release records relating to Barack Obama's service to a nonprofit group linked to former 1960s radical activist William Ayers.

The university's Chicago campus said the donor of the records that document the work of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge has not yet turned over ownership rights to the material.

The university is "aggressively pursuing" an agreement with the donor, and as soon as an agreement is finalized, the collection will be made accessible to the public, the university said in a one-paragraph statement.

There was no indication when an agreement will be worked out. The university did not identify the donor who it said was concerned that the release not invade personal privacy.

Why are you embarrassed by the U of I?

It's the records' donor who has not given permission. The U of I has no rights to reveal the records to the public.

You'd rather have our alma mater embarrass itself by breaking its word to a donor?

I wonder what you think of all the formerly public records that the Bush 43 Administration has re-sealed... Then again, I'm sure you think that's ok because Bush is a Republican and apparently the GOP can do no wrong in your "books".

My wager John?
This will probably be a rerun of the Kerry SF180/DD214 lies and manipulation.
Stinks to high heaven.
Let the sunshine in!

Hey - let's not overlook all of those documents from the Clinton library which have yet to be released.

Though, nothing beats Kerry's repeated empty promises to sign the SF180's (to someone other than a friendly reporter).

Hey Jon,

looks like the nation media's finally starting to get the hint

Money:

“The question now is, will Barack Obama immediately call on the University of Illinois to release all of the records they are currently withholding to shed further light on Senator Obama’s relationship with this unrepentant terrorist?”

My hunch is my alma mater is lying, just as they were in the military scholarships scandal.

GWB never hung around unrepentant terrorists.

Thanks YO and GB.

Hey Grey and John, While you're digging for other records, maybe you could ask your man McCain to release his 636-page military record and his 1173-pages of medical records (for longer than a few moments, that is).

Might as well look up his property records too since that seems to be of keen interest for conservatives.

...That is, if you guys can ever figure out how many mansions and tony condos the McCains actually have.

And, again, if the records' donor has not made them publicly available it is not the U of I's place to leak them. Leave leaks like that to Dick Cheney's office. ;)

Obama has released, what, just one page of his medical records?

The donor should ask for a refund, based on the "results." Ayers and Obama should have just given the students sugar pills, or boxes of Lucky Charms.

And I could care less about the donor, and I believe my alma mater is at best obsfuctating the story.

Obama's medical records are just one page... and they are publicly available 24/7 -- not sequestered away in an undisclosed location -- should a reporter wish to review.

Did you really mean to highlight the fact that Sen. Obama's medical records total one page while McCain's are over 1000 pages?

...And yes, it's very clear that you could "care less." That admission is evident on much more than just this issue.

Fox News just reported that the files will be released by the University today.

Fox is in possession of the files and have started going through them. They have 32 boxes of papers.
