Siouxsie and the Banshees - The Passenger

I spent a lot of time riding on trains last week working on a project away from Marathon Pundit. Understandably, the Iggy Pop song, "The Passenger," kept running through my head.

Then I remembered that Siouxsie and the Banshees recorded a fabulous cover of it.

Enjoy.

Mark Dice: God help us! The Kamala trainwreck interview

As Mark Dice points out, CNN is do dishonest that it had a "Live" screen bug on the bottom of the screen during Dana Bash's interview with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

The interview--edited of course--was recorded earlier in they day.

And Bash, a hack, bent over backwards to protect her candidates.

Another Kamala word salad

Two days ago, Kamala Harris vomited another word salad.

She says "return on investment" three times.

People are realizing Kamala can’t answer a question: Mike Huckabee

If you are part of the 99-percent of the population who has to interview a job, then you should find it odd that Kamala Harris won't agree to sit-down interviews.

Why should America hire her?

Peace Frog, live in New York (1970) - The Doors

The Democrat National Convention returns to Chicago next week.

Back in 1968, of course, a riot broke out when the DNC was in town, which inspired a memorable lyric in the Doors' song "Peace Frog."

And the lyric is, "Blood in the town of Chicago."

Will history repeat?

‘It’s not funny anymore’: Sky News host slams Joe Biden after latest interview

Joe Biden's protectors let him out of the home for an interview with leftwing propagandist and CBS reporter Robert Costa. Biden's cognitive decline was of course on display.

As for Costa's propaganda work. Gabriella Power remarked, “It’s not funny anymore, and the mainstream media is choosing to ignore this so they can focus on propping up Kamala Harris."

Why didn't Costa interview Harris instead? Oh, that's right, she's not doing interviews.

Van Morrison: Real Real Gone / You Send Me [Live]

As regular readers know, earlier this week I reviewed--yes, over at Da Tech Guy, Van Morrison's stupendous live album, Live at Orangefield.

Here's another track from that collection, "Real Real Gone," which morphs into the Sam Cooke classic,
"You Send Me."

Mark Dice: The Tim Walz meme has taken on a life of its own

Here's video to share with those neighbors who have "science is real" signs on their front lawn.

Tim Walz signed into a law that mandated that all Minnesota school bathrooms--including those for boys--have machines that dispense free tampons.

Males don't have menstrual periods.

Amazingly, I have to mention that fact.

Megyn Kelly: Significant questions emerge about Harris VP Tim Walz's military service

"Tim Walz," Megyn Kelly says on her podcast, "has a swift boat problem of his own."

It appears that the Democratic vice-presidential nominee suddenly retired just as his National Guard unit was about to be deployed to Iraq.

Van Morrison: Orangefield [Live]

In 2014, Orangefield High School in Belfast, Northern Ireland closed. It's most famous alumnus is Van Morrison.

And it was at this school, in 1959, where the Belfast Cowboy gave his first public performance.

Shortly after the school shut down, Van the Man performed three concerts.

Last month, Morrison released an album, Live at Orangefield, from those gigs.

Appropriately enough, here is "Orangefield."

On Sunday, at Da Tech Guy, you'll see my review of Live at Orangefield.

Chicago White Sox all-time record since 1901 will go below .500 this month--possibly for first time ever

The Chicago White Sox are more than halfway through an historic season in 2024--but for all of the wrong reasons. As of this writing they are in the midst of a team record 17 game losing streak. Their prior record losing streak was 14 games--and that was set this season.

The White Sox began play in 1901--it began well. Not only did they get off to a fast start, never having a below .500 record that season, they won the first American Legue pennant.

As for '24, the worst may be yet to come. The modern MLB record--since 1900--for worst MLB season ever was set in 1962 by an expansion team, the New York Mets. They were 40-120--a .250 winning percentage that season. Or if you prefer. a .750 losing percentage.

Today, the first day of August, the Sox record is 27-84, a .243 winning percentage. Don't expect a turnaround, because the White Sox traded away most of their best players before last month's trade deadline. Don't giggle, they had some good ones. Those relative ex-Sox stars include starting pitcher Erick Fedde, third baseman Paul DeJong, outfielder Eloy Jiménez, and relief pitcher Michael Kopech, were swapped for prospects.

The last two players are important, as they were prospects acquired for star Sox players several years ago in other "white flag" trades. And as bad as the South Siders have been so far in 2024, getting even worse seems all but certain.

Now it's time for geeky baseball stats. On this day, August 1, 2024, the all-time White Sox regular season win-loss record is 9580-9575. To blast out the obvious, since 1901, overall, the South Siders are a mere five games over .500.

In the spring of '01, William McKinley was president. There were only 45 states.

Sometime this month, perhaps as soon as next week, the Sox will be below .500--possibly for the first time ever--in their cumulative 124 years.

I don't have the time or the math skills to prove my point, but the South Siders--until the Black Sox scandal broke in 1920--were among baseball's elite. There were mediocre until the 1950s--and then quite good until that end of the '60s. More mediocrity followed, along with some successful seasons. Most recently, the Sox were the American League Central Division champions in 2021.

Also, keep in mind that the White Sox, until perhaps now, haven't had a prolonged stretch of awfulness, along the lines of legendary losers such as the St. Louis Browns or the Washington Senators

So my guess is probably correct.

This is an historic season for the Chicago White Sox in so many ways.

A note to media folks: When reporting on this story, be polite and mention Marathon Pundit discovered this news first. Practice good sportsmanship--no cheating!

From my post at Da Tech Guy:

History awaits as Chicago White Sox might finish with worst MLB season ever
