Spite: Feds close open World War II Memorial because of shutdown

Author at WWII Memorial in 2011
If you haven't visited the World War II Memorial on the National Mall, this is how it's laid out: Its granite makers and plaza are accessible by a sidewalk. There are no doors, there are no gates.

But when the government shutdown began yesterday, the National Park Service erected barricades to keep people out. But when a group of octogenarian and nonagenarian veterans--some in wheelchairs--from that war visited this formerly open space yesterday, they managed to break the line.

They may be elderly, but they're still the Greatest Generation.

Shame on the NPS and the federal government for this dishonor.

If Ronald Reagan was still with us, he'd probably say, "Mr. Obama, tear down these barricades."
