Minister backing Jesse Jr: "Political demonic forces" behind his primary challenge

Odd...many liberals are decrying a perceived overlap of religion and politics as the Catholic Church and other faiths express strong opposition to the ObamaCare mandate on contraception and the abortion pill.

These same people are silent when, let's say, several dozen ministers endorse Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) in next month's primary race against Debbie Halvorson.

But there is more to this story--a minister from the St. James Ministries Church of God in Christ says the legions of "Old Scratch" are out to get Junior.

From the Chicago Tribune:
U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. on Monday touted the backing of more than 50 ministers, including one who said "political demonic forces" were driving the agenda of Democratic primary opponent Debbie Halvorson.

The congressman's campaign aides refused to comment on whether they thought the remarks were appropriate. Halvorson called the comments the result of a "desperate" campaign.

The 2nd Congressional District contest between Jackson, a veteran South Sider, and Halvorson, who is seeking a return to Congress after losing in 2010, is one of the most watched matchups ahead of the March 20 primary.

Delivering an opening prayer at a campaign event at 52nd Street and South Harper Avenue, Pastor Willie James Campbell said that "every obstacle and every yoke" on Jackson's re-election bid "has been prepared by Satanic forces."
Junior, who inherited his father's outsized ego, has had a rough go of it recently. He's being investigated by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly raising campaign contributions for soon-to-be-imprisoned Rod Blagojevich. Reports of Jackson's affair with a restaurant hostess have further damaged his reputation.
