Yesterday afternoon I had the honor of participating in my first conference call with Rep. Robert Dold (R-IL), a freshman who represents Illinois' 10th congressional district, a constituency that ends about a mile north of where I live.
Dold is a small business owner--something we more of in Washington--but to be fair, this year's freshman class does have a lot of them.
The Chicago North Shore resident discussed the subcommittee passage of three bills that will make it easier for businesses to raise cash: H.R. 2167, H.R. 2940, and H.R. 2167. They now move on to the House Financial Services Committee. I asked Dold about what he brings to Congress as a business person. "What I think I bring to Congress is a different perspective," he replied. As for his goals and that of his party, Dold added, "We want to have more clarity--we want to have more certainty out there so people can invest back into their businesses and become more confident [so they can] grow"
"Our job I believe in Washington is to create an environment where those small businesses grow and thrive and hire additional persons," Dold concluded.
Dold serves on many House caucuses, including the Job Creators Caucus.
As with other small business owners, Dold knows the effort it takes to meet a payroll every two weeks.
