Christmas and President Ulysses S. Grant
President Ulysses S. Grant signed the bill into law that made Christmas a federal holiday in 1870.
On the left is a typical Christmas tree from that era, which was on display at the
Grant Home
in Galena, Illinois when I visited two years ago.
Merry Christmas!
