Vice President Joe Biden has been traveling across the country hawking something called "Recovery Summer."
Once again I have to ask, "What recovery?"
The July jobless figures are out, the economy shed 131,000 jobs, the unemployment rate remains at 9.5 percent.
In clearly related news, Christina Romer, chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, is resigning. Did she jump or was she pushed? President Obama has an aversion to having business CEOs in his cabinet or among his top staff, but loves eggheads. Romer is returning to her old job as an economics professor at the University of California-Berkeley. Perhaps she will create a new course, "Making a Sick Economy Worse."
The Washington Post says Romer was "instrumental" in crafting the $862 billion economic stimulus, the one that was supposed to prevent unemployment from exceeding 8 percent.
Just as the Democrats used the 2003 "Mission Accomplished" banner about Iraq against President Bush during the 2006 midterms, it's only a matter of time before the Republican National Committee does the same against Obama and his 8 percent vow.
