During late 1970s and early 1980s, Bob Seger was a critical and popular rival to Bruce Springsteen, particularly in his native Midwest. But Seger was quiet in the latter half of that decade, emerging in 1991 with the underrated "The Fire Inside."
The piano-driven title track is both a sad and optimistic view of life from the then-middle-aged Seger, and it's a song that deserved to be a big hit.
A Detroit native, Seger still lives in Michigan.
