Howard Brookins' 21st Ward needs jobs. Wal-Mart can bring them to his South Side Chicago neighborhood.
There's a recession going on now. You know that.
Chicago has just one Wal-Mart, there shouldn't be a fight over this, but some aldermen are more interested in kowtowing to unions that bringing jobs to the city.
Three years ago the City Council tried to add a "living wage" ordinance that would have made it difficult for Wal-Mart and other "big box" stores to operate in Chicago.
Mayor Daley vetoed it, but there is still just one Wal-Mart in Chicago, just as there was before the living wage battle.
There's a recession going on. Oh yeah, you knew that.

Hey what are they gonna do - SEI YOO him?
Pick his pockets?
Buy a Senate Seat?
Unfortunately cowtowing to unions is smart. Especially if you're only worried about your re-election prospects. At least Brookins has the courage of his convictions to stick his neck out for this Wal-Mart. Sadly those who oppose this for various reasons fail to understand this.

Wish I could comment on your excellent blog, but being an IT guy with more passwords and computers than carter has pills, I have no idea what my google/blogspot passwords are. We have 7 or 8 super walmarts in Salt Lake and they're all busy. I can't imagine how busy the one in the corruption capital of America is.
