It's hard to botch an inaugural address, but Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson did so yesterday. As I wrote at Da Tech Guy on Sunday, Chicago police officer Aréanah Preston had just finished her shift when four thugs murdered her in front of her home--she was still wearing her police uniform.
Her funeral will be held tomorrow, four days after she was to have received her master's degree. As for Johnson, who until he entered the mayor's race was a defund-the-police advocate, in that inauguration speech he said, "The tears of Adam Toledo's parents are made of the same sorrow as those of Officer Preston's parents."
Who was Toledo? He was a 13-year-old gang member who was shot to death after 3am in 2021 by a police officer during a foot pursuit. It's believed Toledo was carrying a gun--video footage is inconclusive. The officer, who has yet to be charged, gave warnings to Toledo.
Johnson is mayor for a few minutes and he's already equating a slain cop with a gangbanger.
Oh, where were Toledo's parents at 3am when their son was killed?
Chicago is in for a rough four years.
