5 killed and at least 72 others wounded over weekend in Chicago; there were two mass shootings Sunday night
At that time the number of shootings from this June to last June were slightly down. But again, at that time, shootings were up from 2020 and way up from 2019, the year Lightfoot was sworn in.
What will Lightfoot say today? Because over this past weekend five people were shot to death and at least 72 others were wounded. That's 25 more shootings than last weekend.
There were two mass shootings--both Sunday night on the South Side. One in Chicago Lawn where one person was killed and seven others wounded. The other, in South Shore, where one person was shot to death and five others wounded.
Oh, as I wrote yesterday for Da Tech Guy, Lightfoot is wrong about the root cause of rampant violence in Chicago.

'The Five' slams prosecutors for dropping hundreds of looting cases
Five fatally shot in Chicago over weekend and at least 47 wounded; woman stabbed to death Saturday afternoon downtown
Last week she declared racism a public health crisis. Meanwhile people keep shooting each other in Chicago and most of the victims are minorities. Over the past weekend five people were shot to death and at least 47 others were wounded. Of the fatalities two were in Humboldt Park on the Northwest Side, there was another killing on the Northwest Side in Bucktown. On the South Side a man was shot to death in Parkway Gardens and another man killed by a shooter in Back of the Yards on the Southwest Side.
Liberals like Lightfoot always decry "gun violence." Never "gang violence" or even "violence." Their ulitmate goal is to ban private gun ownership. But people murder each even without guns. In the middle of the day Saturday a college grad student was stabbed to death downtown--that's an area where such violence was rare until a couple of years ago.
Hmm...what happened two years ago? Oh, Lori Lightfoot was elected mayor.

The only readable columnist for too long at the Chicago Tribune was John Kass. The Trib and other papers part of Tribune Publishing were purchased last month by Alden Global Capital, known for gutting newspapers.
Kass, a solid conservative and of course a great patriot, accepted a buyout offer from Alden.
But to use a hackneyed cliche it's not "Farewell" for Kass, but "Fare-forward." You can find him now on JohnKassNews.com.I've written my last column for the Tribune. But now I have a new home. And you're invited to go on this great adventurehttps://t.co/FEUpG7nP19

Lightfoot lashes out at Chicago Bears, who are considering a move to suburbs
The ultimate responsibility of any government is to protect its citizens. But the city's murder rate is soaring--and in the past week there have been three mass shootings. Carjackings are skyrocketing too.
So if a business doesn't feel safe in Chicago--or if feels the city is unsafe for its customers--it is likely to look elsewhere for a home.
So it is with the Chicago Bears who have placed a bid to purchase Arlington International Racecourse in northwest suburban Arlington Heights even though they have lease at Soldier Field on Chicago's Lakefront until 2033.
Bears president Ted Phillips says they plan to "explore every possible option" in regards to a home. Chicago's unhinged mayor, who is beholden to leftist ideologies that makes her incapable to addressing Chicago's crime wave, predictably lashed out at the Bears, who have called Chicago home for 100 years. "And like most Bears fans, we want the organization to focus on putting a winning team on the field," the Ohio native said, "beating the Packers finally, and being relevant past October. Everything else is just noise."Thursday, June 17, 2021

There were two mass shootings on Tuesday. In Englewood on the South Side four people were killed and four others were wounded yesterday morning. Last night in West Garfield Park on the West Side four people were wounded in a mass shooting. Over the last five days there have been three mass shootings in Chicago.

Inflation soared in May at rate higher than expected
Welcome back Carter.
Inflation is back thanks to the reckless spending of Joe Biden and the Democrats.
From CNBC:Consumer prices for May accelerated at their fastest pace in nearly 13 years as inflation pressures continued to build in the U.S. economy, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
The consumer price index, which represents a basket including food, energy, groceries, housing costs and sales across a spectrum of goods, rose 5% from a year ago. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting a gain of 4.7%.
The reading represented the biggest CPI gain since the 5.3% increase in August 2008, just before the worst of the financial crisis sent the U.S. spiraling into the worst recession it had seen since the Great Depression.

May jobs report falls short of expectations
The Joe Biden economy continues to disappoint.
From Fox Business:
U.S. employers added fewer than expected jobs last month as extended unemployment benefits encouraged workers to stay home.
Employers added 559,000 jobs in May, the Labor Department said Friday, missing the addition of 650,000 jobs that analysts surveyed by Refinitiv were expecting. April’s reading was revised higher by 12,000 to 278,000.
The unemployment rate, meanwhile, declined 0.3 percentage points to 5.8%, its lowest since the pandemic caused businesses to shut their doors in March 2020.
Despite the gains, the U.S. economy has 7.6 million, or 5%, fewer workers from its February 2020 pre-pandemic level.

Illinois General Assembly passes bill to make Juneteenth its thirteenth paid holiday for state workers
Illinois is closer to making Juneteenth a state holiday.Legislation making June 19 a paid day off for all state employees and a school holiday was unanimously approved by the Illinois House last week and by the state Senate last month. It states that if June 19 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the holiday will be observed the following Monday. The measure would take effect immediately if Gov. J.B. Pritzker signs it.Juneteenth commemorates the date in 1865 when the last enslaved Black people in the U.S. learned from Union soldiers in Texas that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. The day is also known as Emancipation Day and Freedom Day.
