Illinois parents allegedly giving up custody of kids so they can nab college scholarships

Again it is League of Shadows time at Marathon Pundit. When is the League coming to Illinois?

Hurry!

"The League of Shadows has been a check against human corruption for thousands of years. We sacked Rome, loaded trade ships with plague rats, burned London to the ground. Every time a civilization reaches the pinnacle of its decadence, we return to restore the balance." Ra's al Ghul in Batman Begins.

From--gasp!--the Huffington Post:
Dozens of wealthy families in Illinois have reportedly been using a controversial tactic to help their children pay for college: They give up legal guardianship so the teenagers can claim dramatically lower incomes and earn need-based financial aid, according to reports from two news organizations published Monday.

ProPublica and The Wall Street Journal each detailed the efforts in separate articles after uncovering dozens of applications filed by Chicago-area parents to financially divorce themselves from their kids over the past year and a half.

As part of the strategy, wealthy parents allegedly file paperwork to transfer legal custody of their kids to other relatives, friends or even co-workers. When the transfers are complete — often during their junior or senior years of high school — students are then able to declare themselves financially independent on college applications. In one instance detailed by the Journal, a student whose parents owned a $1.2 million home only had to declare $4,200 in income from a summer job.

That student was able to obtain about $47,000 in scholarships and federal Pell grants to attend a private university that costs $65,000 per year.
In my lifetime four Illinois governors have been sent to prison. The current governor, JB Pritzker, is under federal investigation.

The corrupt attitude trickles down.

Chicago mayor caught on hot mic calling Fraternal Order of Police official a clown

Chicago's SW side
Chicago has a cop hater in charge of city hall.

From NBC Chicago:
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was caught on audio calling a member of the local Fraternal Order of Police a “clown” during Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

Just as FOP Lodge 7 First Vice President Patrick Murray was being called to speak during the meeting, Lightfoot could be heard saying on a live stream Facebook feed “Oh, back again. This is this FOP clown.”

The microphone’s audio was still hot in the live stream of the meeting.

Lightfoot acknowledged the remark in a press conference after the meeting, saying “It was not appropriate for me to say that out loud.”
But, I guess, it was appropriate for her to say it quietly.

Feds raid home of third Boss Madigan confidante

Perhaps the federal government has something on Michael Madigan. In 2017 said of him that's he's "the man behind the fiscal fiasco in Illinois." Madigan has been speaker of the state House for 34 of the last 36 years is also the longtime chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party.

From the Chicago Tribune by way of the Peoria Journal-Star:
The FBI has raided the downstate home of a high-powered former Springfield lobbyist who for decades served as one of House Speaker Michael Madigan’s closest confidants, the Chicago Tribune has learned.

The raid of Mike McClain’s home in Quincy took place in mid-May, around the same time the FBI executed search warrants at the homes of two other Madigan associates — former 23rd Ward Ald. Michael Zalewski and political operative Kevin Quinn, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

It’s unclear what agents were looking for when they searched McClain’s house in Quincy, which is about 100 miles west of Springfield along the Mississippi River.

But the search warrant indicates that federal investigators are probing connections to possible criminal acts by some in Madigan’s inner circle. To obtain a search warrant, federal law enforcement must convince a judge there is probable cause to believe a crime has been committed and that evidence of that crime exists in the home.

George Orwell's dystopia is alive and well on our college campuses.

Chicago's new mayor: "It feels like we are losing the streets"

Ditching the ACLU consent decree that limits the powers of Chicago Police is a good place to start if Chicago wants to fight violence.

From Fox News:
Chicago’s new mayor is taking issue with the city's police department as the city continues to see far more homicides than New York and Los Angeles, as well as major eruptions of other violence.

“One weekend does not make a trend,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Tuesday, according to Fox 32. “But we've now had a couple weekends where it feels like we are losing the streets.”
Lightfoot's comments also came off the back of one of the city's bloodiest weekends so far this year, in which more than 40 people shot, nine of them fatally.

Right before Independence Day, 50 people were shot. And despite the deployment of an extra 1,200 officers in the city, at least 43 people were shot over Memorial Day weekend, seven of them fatally.

Jim Acosta Meets Mark Dice (Again)

Watch as the arrogant fake news provider, Jim Acosta of CNN, meets Mark Dice outside the White House.

Thursday: 50th anniversary of the Chappaquiddick killing

While the media is celebrating--and that's a great thing--the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, another anniversary from 1969 is upon us. Tomorrow marks 50 years of Sen. Edward Kennedy driving off the Chappaquiddick bridge on Massachusetts' Martha Vineyard.

Turning down an invitation to witness the Apollo 11 launch, "the Lion of the Senate" instead traveled to the island for a yacht race and to attend a reunion of volunteers from Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 campaign. The volunteers were young and female, the male attendees were all married.

Kennedy. who had no driver's license, drove his car off that bridge into a pond. His passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, was found dead hours later. Teddy swam to safety and didn't contact authorities until the submerged car was discovered.

Kennedy received a suspended sentence for not reporting an accident. There was no autopsy of Kopechne.

Nike caves to Colin Kaepernick's request to drop Betsy Ross flag shoes

Leftist marcher in
Chicago last year
As a runner, I'm a prime potential consumer of Nike products. I purchased--well, my parents did for me--my first Nike shoes over 40 years ago.

I'd announce a boycott of Nike had I not been boycotting them already.

From CNBC:
Nike is pulling sneakers featuring an early American flag after former NFL football player Colin Kaepernick told the company it shouldn’t sell a shoe that he and others consider offensive, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday evening, citing people familiar with the matter.

Nike shares were falling less than 1% in premarket trading Tuesday following the news. Shares had closed Monday up nearly 2% and have rallied 15% this year, bringing the retailer’s market cap to about $134.2 billion.

Kaepernick reportedly contacted Nike officials saying he and others felt the “Betsy Ross” flag — featuring 13 stars in a circle — featured on the shoes was linked to a period of slavery. The Betsy Ross flag is one type that was flown during the American Revolution. And the shoes were set to be released in celebration of the July Fourth holiday.

Gay, Asian, but conservative: Mainstream media largely uninterested in attack on Andy Ngo in Portland by Antifa brutes

Andy Ngo is the wrong type of victim. He was brutally attacked by Antifa terrorists over the weekend. Did you hear about it? Maybe not, because while Ngo is Asian and gay, he's also a conservative.

He tells Guy Benson, "I'm not the right type of victim."

Ngo suffered face bruises and brain bleeding from his beating.

More from KGO-TV, who is reporting on this barbarity:
"I have that physical pain and I'm dealing now with the emotional trauma of it as I'm recalling this event," said Ngo.

"As a journalist I've written critically about Antifa's criminal activities in the city and for that I've been threatened and intimidated and doxed multiple times all of which have been reported to police and as far as I know no action has been taken," he explained.

Ngo says right before leaving his home he took off his helmet so as not to appear armed for a battle.

"My mistake was leaving that helmet at home because they went primarily for my head," said Ngo.

Unhinged: AOC claims illegals were forced to drink toilet water

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a whack job.

From Bloomberg:
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused U.S. border agents of conducting a program of “psychological warfare” against detained migrants who were told to drink water from toilets if they were thirsty.

The New York Democrat’s comments on Twitter came amid a report Monday that border agents used a secret Facebook group to share lewd posts about Ocasio-Cortez and at least one other Democratic lawmaker as well as racist comments about migrants.

“Just left the 1st CBP facility. I see why CBP officers were being so physically & sexually threatening towards me. Officers were keeping women in cells w/ no water & had told them to drink out of the toilets,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, referring to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Mark Dice: Jim Acosta's Dream Comes True

The headline about CNN's Jim Acosta is sarcastic.

Chicago: 4 dead at at least 52 wounded over weekend

The first half of 2019 ended with a lot of bloodshed.

From Fox Chicago:
Citywide gun violence over the weekend left at least four people dead and 52 others hurt.

An outburst of shootings killed one person and wounded 20 others in the first 12 hours of the weekend, which began at 5 p.m. Friday and ended 5 a.m. Monday.

It’s the second time this year that at least 50 people were hurt in gun violence incidents within city limits during a weekend, but police said shootings in the first half of 2019 were at a four-year low.
