During World War II over 8,000 airplanes as well as other vitally needed supplies were transported from the United States to Russia for the fight against the Nazis on the Eastern Front as part of
the Lend-Lease Program.
In Fairbanks, Alaska--which was a key exchange spot--there is a monument honoring Lend-Lease which show a Russian and American pilot.
