On this day in 1869: Transcontinental railroad completed

Our Civil War made North and South one nation. When the Golden Spike was drilled on this day in 1869 at Promontory Point, Utah, the rest of America was brought into the family.

100 years later Apollo 11 landed on the Moon and returned safely.

Those two events are not unrelated. Earth's greatest nation made it to the Moon first.

America performs great feats.
