Lightfoot's Summer of Joy begins in Chicago: 10 dead and at least 42 wounded, two mass shootings

Last month Chicago's embattled mayor, Lori Lightfoot, declared that the summer of 2022 would be a "Summer of Joy."

It's already off to a bad start.

From Fox Chicago:

Chicago experienced its most violent Memorial Day weekend in five years — 10 killed, 42 wounded — despite stepped up police patrols and a focus on neighborhood programs that city officials hoped would provide peaceful alternatives.
About half of those shot were on the West Side, most of them in a single police district, the 11th, where there were two mass shootings on Sunday. On the South Side, at least 14 people were shot. And downtown, where there has been a spike in shootings all year, four people were hit by gunfire.
The weekend was the most violent since 2017, when seven people were killed and 45 people were wounded, according to Chicago police data. The year before, 69 people had been shot over the long holiday weekend.
This past weekend’s toll is sharply higher than last year, when three people were killed and 34 others were wounded.

One of those mass shootings wounded five people, including a 16-year-old girl, in West Garfield Park, at a gathering marking the anniversary of the murder of an 18-year-old. In the other mass shooting, a man was killed and four others were wounded in Humboldt Park.

Van Morrison sues Northern Ireland health minister over op-ed that criticized singer's anti-lockdown comments

Van Morrison's 2021 album, Latest Record Project Volume 1, includes a song, "Where Have All The Rebels Gone?"
Where have all the rebels gone?
Hiding behind computer screens
Where’s the spirit, where’s the soul?
Where have all the rebels gone?

One rebel has been found, Van the Man, who turns 77 this summer. Morrison has been the entertainment industry's most forceful critic of COVID lockdowns.

From the Guardian:

Van Morrison has issued legal proceedings against Northern Ireland’s Department of Health and its minister Robin Swann over an opinion piece written for Rolling Stone magazine.
In September 2020, Morrison released three anti-lockdown songs, with lyrics that accused scientists of "making up crooked facts".
"The new normal is not normal,” he sang. "We were born to be free."
In response, Swann wrote for the US magazine describing Morrison’s songs as a "smear" on those involved in the public health response to the virus, and highlighting the damage the musician might cause to public messaging around COVID-19 in Northern Ireland.

In 2021 Swann sued Morrison over remarks the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee over a public chant that called him "very dangerous."

Augusta, Georgia World War I monument

On Greene Street in Augusta, Georgia there are several military monuments and memorials. One of them is the World War I Monument.

Remember those who fell this Memorial Day. Remember the veterans who are no longer with us.

The monument reads on one side, "The men of Richmond County, of every creed and color, who served at their country's call that aggression and lawless force should not dominate the world."

On the other side it says, "What stands if freedom fall? - Kipling 1914,

The longer quote from Rudyard Kipling is, "There is but one task for all --One life for each to give. What stands if Freedom fall?"

From Da Tech Guy: Leftists in their silo created the Ministry of Truth, Ultra MAGA, and Chicago’s Summer of Joy

We are the ones with the open minds. More from my past at Da Tech Guy: Leftists in their silo created the Ministry of Truth, Ultra MAGA, and Chicago's Summer of Joy.

Memorial Day is more than barbecues, parties, and for some people, a day off from work.

It's when we remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the greatest nation ever.

Pictured here is Chattanooga National Cemetery.

All game some. Some gave all.

Van Morrison - Dangerous

As I wrote in my review--link is below--Van Morrison's latest release is an essential album. Here's the title track, "Dangerous."

Augusta, Georgia Spanish-American War Memorial

During a quick drive on Greene Street in Augusta, Georgia you might overlook this memorial to the soldiers and sailors who fought in the Spanish-American War.

My sharp eyes didn't overlook it.

Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation this Memorial Day.

On the bronze plaque is a quote from President William McKinley.

"You triumphed over obstacles which would have overcome men less brave and determined."
