Rather than pound out an agreement with Congress to avert the sequester, President Obama chooses to continue his "endless campaign."

How many air controller jobs can be saved if Obama just stayed in Washington instead of flying all over the country on Air Force One?

But Obama wants to travel everywhere but to Harry Reid's office, which is just 1.7 miles from the White House.

Once again, I have to remind folks that the sequestration was President Obama's idea.

Oh, even if the sequester goes through, the federal budget will grow this year. Obama, who once vowed to go through the budget line-by-line to eliminate waste, needs to stop the fear-mongering.

ILL-inois: Watchdog predicts $22 billion in unpaid bills by 2018

ILL-nois is getting sicker, WBBM-AM reports.
The long list of people the state owes money to could nearly triple in five years, if lawmakers don’t get costs under control, according to a local budget watchdog group.

WBBM Newsradio’s Nancy Harty reports an analysis by the Civic Federation found the state’s unpaid bills could balloon to $22 billion by 2018 if the General Assembly doesn't act to reduce pension and Medicaid costs.

"We are concerned, and we're quite worried that the state of Illinois is on a path to run up its unpaid bills to over $22 billion, and it's not going to be able to fund essential state services," said Civic Federation President Laurence Msall.

Even though lawmakers have made some reforms to the state’s Medicaid system, Msall they must trim more costs. He also said state lawmakers have yet to tackle the state's massive pension costs – amounting to more than $96 billion in unfunded pension liabilities.
Illinois' bicentennial will be in 2018. There will be nothing to celebrate.

As the office of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor reminds us. President Obama has promised--repeatedly--to go through the federal budget "line-by-line" to eliminate waste and programs that don't work.

Of course Obama never followed through.

Now that time has arrived.

ILL-inois: Crony capitalism charter school operator holds fundraiser for state house speaker

Last fall Illinois state House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) held a fundraiser hosted by Juan Rangel, the CEO of the powerful Hispanic group United Neighborhood Organization and its lobbyist, attorney Victor Reyes.

Madigan is also the chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party. His daughter, Lisa, is the state attorney general and a possible candidate for governor in 2014.

From the Chicago Sun-Times:
The turnout was good. And so was the money, records show, with UNO contractors writing checks for more than $24,000 to campaign funds controlled by Madigan, the Chicago Democrat whose district has grown increasingly Hispanic in recent years.

Madigan had given a big boost to the group's aspirations to be a major operator of charter schools in the city when he helped it get a $98 million state school-construction grant in 2009, without any requirement for competitive bidding on the work, as government agencies typically must do. The state money helped fuel UNO's rapid growth as the operator of publicly funded schools that offer an alternative to Chicago’s public schools in heavily Latino neighborhoods.

Millions of dollars from the state grant ended up going to family members of UNO's political allies and of a top executive of the group, Miguel d'Escoto, the Chicago Sun-Times reported earlier this month. The stories prompted d'Escoto to resign his $200,000-a-year UNO post and triggering a state review.

After the Madigan benefit was held, a bill was introduced in Springfield on Jan. 2 that would have provided another $35.2 million in state money UNO was seeking to build more charter schools. The author of the bill, state Sen. Heather Steans (D-Chicago), says she isn;t sure who wrote the provision benefiting UNO into her broader bill.
Rangel was a co-chair of Rahm Emanuel's mayoral campaign committee.

Mary Claire Kendall, the acting president/CEO of Friends of President Reagan's Chicago Home, Inc., gives a fundraising update on the group's blog. Meanwhile, most of the buildings near 832 E. 57th Street have already been razed, while the only Chicago home of Ronald Reagan stands alone--as the Gipper did even in the Republican Party prior to his election to the presidency.

Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace caught Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) flatfooted when he explains to her that the Republican-controlled House passed two bills to replace the sequestration cuts with other spending reductions while the Democrat-controlled Senate has done nothing.
