Obama White House has revised jobless claims upwards 88 of the last 90 weeks

This week's new jobless claims are at 389,000--a very high number. Look for that number to go up. Our hyper-politicized White House has revised that number upwards for 88 of the last 90 weeks.

Folks, if we aren't being lied to, we are certainly being misled.

Hostess is gone. One reason is the plethora of unions the baker had to cope with. President Obama's radicalized National Labor Relations Board could create Hostess scenarios if they successfully succeed in foisting micro-unions on to the public.

Chicago Teachers Union organizing indoctrination summit

Early this morning I listened as Bruce Wolf and Dan Proft confronted Chicago Teachers Union Vice President Jesse Sharkey about his speaking role at a Marxist conference at Northwestern University earlier this month. Sharkey's toothless retort rested on his claim of McCarthyism. Odd, no one called Sharkey a communist. However, my friend Jeremy Segal, who reported on Sharkey's presence at the event for Breitbart, was told to leave the conference because he is not a communist. That's true--Segal is not a commie.

Below you will find the latest radical announcement from the Chicago Teachers Union, an all-day indoctrination conference masquerading as an education summit. One of the topics to be discussed is student organizing. Please educate me: Why do students need to be organized? Aren't they supposed to be taught by teachers?

Barely half of the students at Chicago's unionized high schools graduate, 79 percent of the eighth graders aren't reading at grade level.

As for the collaborators, Action NOW was formed from the flotsam and jetsam of the Chicago branch of the disgraced ACORN. Most of the rest of them--I'm familiar with some of the groups--are dyed-red-in-the-wool lefties. Yes, this is definitely not an education summit.

As for the school closings--the teachers are more concerned about their jobs than the kids they are supposed to be educating.  And Chicago's population continues its post-World War II population decline. Why not close some schools?

(Photos) Highland Park's three Frank Lloyd Wright houses

Although in the Chicago area Frank Lloyd Wright is best known for his architectural work in Oak Park--where he lived and maintained his studio, there are other Wright projects elsewhere in the region.

Highland Park, Illinois is graced with three Wright homes--all of them are in his Prairie Style and they are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Arguably his first Prairie Style home is the Ward Willits House (1902) at 1445 Sheridan Road. In his biography of Wright, Meryle Secrest called it "his acknowledged masterpiece." It's a very large home--there are four wings in it. I didn't get inside of any of these houses--but in this video you can see what treasures are inside. The exterior is stucco--but wood dominates in the interior.

If you are in the market to buy an architectural gem, then you'll be interested in the George M. Millard House (1906) at 1689 Lake Avenue. It's been on the market for a year--and the price keeps dropping. Although the asking price is still over $1 million. Realtor.com has photographs of the interior of this home--which also contains much wood.

Here is another view of the Millard House.

The Mary W. Adams House (1905) is a few blocks away--at 1923 Lake Avenue. It has new owners--and they are restoring the interior to its original design.

Obama discovers a tax he doesn't like

Amazingly, President Obama found a tax he didn't care for. That's because Europeans--not he--are collecting it.

From the Wall Street Journal:

Congress may love taxes, but not if foreigners are taxing Americans and keeping the money. So in September the Senate passed by rare unanimous vote a bill directing the Transportation Secretary to protect U.S. carriers from the air tax if he deems it necessary, and the House followed upon returning after the election.

"The Obama Administration is firmly committed to reducing harmful carbon pollution from civil aviation both domestically and internationally," said a White House spokesman on Tuesday, but “the application of the EU [tax] to non-EU air carriers is the wrong way to achieve that objective." It's good to know there’s at least one tax this Administration doesn't like.

Rice cooked?

When Susan Rice met with three Republican senators, it was supposed to help her odds of being confirmed to be the next secretary of state.

From The Hill:

Susan Rice's chances of winning confirmation as secretary of State dimmed Tuesday after she failed to win over her sharpest Republican critics.

GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), John McCain (Ariz.) and Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) exited a Capitol Hill meeting with Rice saying they remained troubled about comments the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations made days after the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“Bottom line, I’m more disturbed now than I was before [by] the 16 September explanation about how four Americans died in Benghazi, Libya, by Ambassador Rice,” Graham said following the closed-door briefing also attended by acting CIA Director Michael Morell.

Other Republicans said Rice might survive a Foreign Relations Committee vote on her nomination, but expressed doubt she could win confirmation from the entire Senate.
