If you want to read a fictional story about the Illinois Republican Party, I suggest you read this ABC 7 Chicago report. For instance, the story makes the claim that social conservatives were the base of the GOP during the 1990s. Not that Land of Lincoln social-cons voted Democratic, but pro-choice Republicans Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar served as governor from 1977 until 1999. In 1994, family-values candidate Jack Roeser challenged Edgar in the Republican Primary, he won one-third of the vote. That fall Edgar trounced his Democratic challenger, winning 101 of Illinois' 102 counties, including heavily Democratic Cook.
In 1998, pro-life Republican George Ryan, who is now in prison, defeated a pro-life Democrat for governor.
The Illinois Republican Party is on the rebound. Offering further proof of this is someone I used to call a rising star, but now I'm going to call a star, US Rep. Aaron Schock of Peoria.
Peoria Pundit is reporting that the 27 year-old first term congressman will be interviewed by Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday tomorrow. Schock's segment will appear on the tail end of the show, which will start at 10am Eastern, 9pm Central.
Don't forget to set your clocks back tonight! Oops, make the set them forward!
Although he is politically more conservative than his predecessor, current Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, Schock did not run as a social-con last year.

That's good news, but honestly, it has nowhere to go but up.
Given the amount of incompetence and corruption displayed by Illinois Democrats, they should be ripe to get trounced. I think running as a social-con is a net loser, though. Running as clean, fiscally responsible candidate is a good idea.
