Monarch butterfly and goldenrod

A monarch butterfly allowed me close access so I could capture this photograph yesterday afternoon at the Prairie Wolf Slough Forest Preserve in Deerfield, Illinois.

It is feasting on goldenrod nectar. The assumption that monarchs only feast on milkweed plants is only partially true--it is the larva subsist solely on milkweed leaves.
