Four Corners Furtherance: Devil's Garden Trail at dusk

The two most popular hikes in Arches National Park is the walk to Delicate Arch, discussed a couple of posts ago, and the Devil's Garden Trail. Landscape Arch is the most distinctive arch on the trail. It's 300 feet long but is only 11 feet thick at its narrowest point. Nineteen Septembers ago a 73-foot slab fell from the thinnest part of the arch--the rest of it could collapse at anytime, as another one on that same trail, Wall Arch, did in 2008.

Since there are over 2,000 sandstone arches on the trail, there are of course some on this trail. On the upper right is the aptly named Tunnel Arch.

We walked the Devil's Garden trail at sunset, which is how why Pine Tree Arch appears as it does. And after the hike we drove to our hotel in Moab, but not before taking one more photograph.

  1. What temperature was it when you were there? It was about 100 when we decided not to get out of the air-conditioned car last year.

  2. It wasn't that bad in Arches, 85 or 90. The first day in Zion was the worst, about 100. Mesa Verde was hot too.
