Rather than get on their collective knees and thank God that the Obama administration bailed out General Motors and Chrysler, members of the United Auto Workers marched into a Detroit Bank of America branch--forcing it to close for three hours yesterday. [Update: The Detroit Free Press says the bank was closed for thirty minutes.]The bailout not only saved, at least for now, GM and Chrysler, it preserved the burdensome and self-serving work rules favored by the unions--ones that undermine the competitiveness of American automobile manufacturers.
This is not your father's UAW. It's the Jesse Jacksonized-labor organization, hence the march. Although the strong-arm artist does not seem to be involved in today's ruckus--Jackson has been working with the UAW lately.
The protest was the exclamation point to the union's three day bargaining convention. Oh, how would the UAW like it if over 100 Bank of America employees disrupt their gathering?
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, the public-sector unions' $5 million man, spoke at the gathering, declaring "Union jobs are the only way to go." That our Quinn.
Why is Quinn the "$5 million man?" That's how much public-sector union cash his campaign has collected from public-sector unions since becoming governor.
Oh, he has taken UAW cash too, $350,000 from the UAW Illinois Political Action Committee since replacing his two-time running mate Rod Blagojevich.
UPDATE 10:05 AM CDT: Outside of Michigan, there has been very little mainstream media coverage of yesterday's UAW goonery. I imagine there would be more MSM attention if a tea party group closed down a Bank of America office.
