Happy Monday from Topeka, Kansas

Treo blogging from Topeka, Kansas.

I checked into the Days Inn here about 15 minutes ago. I'm about two miles from the so-called Westboro Baptist Church, the vile home base of that loon, the Rev. Fred Phelps.

The drive from Morton Grove was pleasant but long. I took the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway, also known as I-88, to I-80 into Iowa. In Des Moines, I exited south on I-35.

One Iowa disappointment: I expected to see presidential campaign billboars throughout my Hawkeye State drive--I saw none.

I-35 continues into Missouri, in Kansas City, I switched on to I-70--that took me to Topeka.

Here's some irony: For a while, I-70 is a toll road--the Kansas Turnpike.

Where is the last "free" bit of pavement before the highway turns into a toll raod?

Leavenworth.

When I wake up, I'm going to take some pictures of that "church," then on to the Flint Hills and Chase County.

Maybe Wichita by evening.
