From the oldest continously operating restaurant west of the Mississippi

I'm enjoying mt Kansas Buffalo Burger at the Hays House in Council Grove. Founded in 1857 by Seth Hays--a great grandon of Daniel Boone, it's the oldest continously operating restaurant west of the Mississippi.

The restaurant is on Main Street, also known as US Route 56, which in this part of the state is built on the site of the Santa Fe Trail.

The weather is cloudy--not good for panoramic photos of the Flint Hills, but I'm optimistic about later this afternoon. Cottonwood Falls is next.
