Joe Rogan hilariously trolls The View after host called him a ‘dragon believer'

There is so much good news that the Donald Trump victory has blessed us with during these trying times.

The humiliation of the media, from The View and MSNBC on down, is one of those joys.

Jussie Smollett's conviction overturned by Democrat-controlled Illinois Supreme Court

Another embarrassing episode from the disastrous Kim Foxx misrule as Cook County's prosecutor leaves a disappointing result.

The stench from Jussie Smollett's racist attack hoax---and Chicago is still not "MAGA country"--should plague him for the rest of his life.

There is a 4-3 Democrat majority on the state Supreme Court.

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

In a blockbuster ruling Thursday, the state Supreme Court overturned the conviction of actor Jussie Smollett for an alleged 2019 hoax hate crime, a move that will spare the former “Empire” star a five-month jail sentence, if not clear his name.

Smollett had challenged nearly every aspect of his case, arguing that he should have been done with the case after Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s office struck a deal to drop the charges, that the special prosecutor who re-investigated the case and re-indicted him a year later was wrongfully appointed.

Smollett spent six days in jail in 2022, before being released to wait out his appeals. An appeals court last year upheld Smollett’s sentence on five low-level felony counts related to lying to police about an attack he and two accomplices staged near his Streeterville apartment.

Foxx leaves office in two weeks. The prosecutor who is reluctant to prosecute is one of the worst public servants in Illinois history, and the competition is steep among the crooks and incompetents who get elected here. Her boneheaded decision to drop charges related to Smollett's hoax will haunt Foxx for the rest of her life. So, there's a little bit of upside here for those of us who believe people should be accountable for their misdeeds.

The Kinks - All Day And All Of The Night (Official Audio)

Shel Talmy, the Chicago-born producer for the Kinks in their early years--who also produced the debut album for The Who, which included their epochal "My Generation," died this week. He was 87.

The grinding guitar sound from the early years of the Kinks and The Who inspired the punk and grunge sounds.

Rest in peace.

Here's a Kinks classic from the Talmy era, "All Day and All of the Night."

Van Morrison: I Need Your Kind of Loving

Fall must be Van Morrisons favorite season. In the closing track of his 1991 double album, Hymns to the Silence, "I Need Your Kind of Loving," the Belfast Lion sings, "Well I love you in the autumn most of all."

Morrison often mentions autumn in his songs.

America wins: Trump is the president-elect

Donald J. Trump made the biggest political comeback in American history--he will be the 47th president of the United States. Not only that, but the Republicans have recaptured the Senate. The House of Representatives is too close to call.

Trump has a decent shot of winning the popular vote.

Chicago cop murdered during traffic stop

There's bad news on this Election Day morning. A Chicago cop was murdered.

From Fox Chicago:

The shooting happened during a traffic stop around 8 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Ingleside Avenue, according to Chicago police.

Someone inside the vehicle started shooting as police approached, striking one officer and another occupant of the vehicle. Police said at least one officer returned fire. The suspect tried to drive away and struck another officer at the scene. The driver then tried to run away from the car but was arrested in the 8000 block of South Maryland Avenue, police said.

The officer who was shot was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Fraternal Order of Police identified him Tuesday morning as 26-year-old Officer Enrique Martinez.

Swing state voters: When Illinois leftists show up at your door telling you to vote for Harris, ask them why 300,000 people moved out last year

Another weekend is here and that means thousands of Illinois leftists are headed to swing states, particularly Michigan and Wisconsin, with the goal of showing up at front doors and telling the unfortunate people who answer, "Vote for Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate."

Illinois is a one-party state that has been run into the ground by the Democrats.

Just last year, WGN-TV tells us, 300,000 people moved out of Hell-inois.

So, if an Illinois leftist shows up at your home, or calls you on the telephone, and tells you to vote for Harris, ask them why so many people are moving out of the state.

Is it the high taxes? The high crime? The unfunded public pensions? The corruption?

Then politely tell the Illinois Democrat to pack up and drive home. But tell them to fill up their gas tanks first. Gasoline, because of the high taxes, is expensive in the Prairie State.

Van Morrison with Willie Nelson: What's Wrong with this Picture?

Van Morrison is back with another album, New Arrangements and Duets, which was released Friday.

The Belfast Cowboy has made a lot of enemies in the media because of his strident--and correct--stand against COVID-19 lockdowns.

These versions were recorded over decades. Morrison has been busy releasing material--some new and some old--and predictably, the media is attacking him for that.

Would the prefer all his archived work be issued, wily-nily, after his death? The ghouls tainted the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and so many more artists.

What a bunch of losers, the media is. That is why when a newspaper or a magazine folds, I shed no tears. The media doesn't tell the story, it tells their story.  That is why readers are turning out.

Back to Van the Man.

The album is jazzy with a big band sound. And among the duets are two songs with Willie Nelson.

"What's Wrong with this Picture?" is one of them. It is graced with countrified slide guitar. Nelson and Morrison have different vocal styles, which is why this track works.

And this song, which was originally released in 2003, contains subtle attacks on the media.

This edition of "What's Wrong with this Picture?" was recorded in the late 2010s.

Chicago Sun-Times editorial board member Rummana Hussain on Tulsi Gabbard: "She's a white woman"

Donald Trump received some blowback, probably somewhat deserved, when he said that Kamala Harris "happened to turn black" recently.

Although she isn't a candidate for president, Rummana Hussain. She's a columnist at the Sun-Times, and she has been a member of the Chicago Sun-Times editorial board since 2021. So, she's got some influence. But not with me.

Race apparently is a big deal with Hussain. While a guest on the Ben Joravsky Show podcast in July, she revealed to the host that a job at the Sun-Times a while back was only for a minority. I believe that race-based hiring is illegal.

On last Saturday's Joravsky show, Hussain, who is Indian, weighed in on former Democratic member of the House of Representatives, Tulsi Gabbard, who is now an independent. Last month she endorsed Trump for president.

Hussain, who represented Hawaii in Congress, was born in American Samoa to a white woman and a Samoan father. To her credit Gabbard doesn't talk much about her ethnicity--I would consider her mixed race.

But Hussain says the former congresswoman is white. "Her parents are white," Hussain remarked to Joravasky,"like she's white, she's a white woman." Look for this inflammatory comment around the seven-minute park.

I can only imagine the uproar if a conservative podcaster or radio host said something similar.

31 shot, five fatally, over Labor Day weekend in Chicago; fatalities may go up by four after 4 homeless people found shot dead on CTA train in suburbs

The first holiday weekend after Chicago, with surprisingly few problems, hosted the Democratic National Convention, saw relatively few shootings.

That might change, but more on that soon.

During the four-day July 4 weekend, an astounding 109 people were shot--nine of those victims died.

For Labor Day, as of early afternoon on Tuesday, just 31 people were shot over the three-day weekend, five of them were killed.

However, early Labor Day morning, four people, three men and one woman, who were apparently homeless and asleep, were found dead from gunshot wounds at the end of the CTA Blue Line in west-suburban Forest Park. It's unclear though, where these train passengers were shot. Nearly all of the Blue Line runs through Chicago. It's possible that the Chicago shooting and fatality numbers for the Labor Day may increase by four if it's found they were shot within Chicago's city limits.

A suspect in the Blue Line murders is in police custody.

When the DNC was in town, I rode CTA trains several times and I was presently surprised how peaceful it was. There was a heavy police presence on the CTA and on the train platforms. The prior times I took CTA trains I encountered crazy people every time.

Chicago can do better if it wants to do so.

Chicago White Sox all-time record since 1901 will go below .500 this month--possibly for first time ever

The Chicago White Sox are more than halfway through an historic season in 2024--but for all of the wrong reasons. As of this writing they are in the midst of a team record 17 game losing streak. Their prior record losing streak was 14 games--and that was set this season.

The White Sox began play in 1901--it began well. Not only did they get off to a fast start, never having a below .500 record that season, they won the first American Legue pennant.

As for '24, the worst may be yet to come. The modern MLB record--since 1900--for worst MLB season ever was set in 1962 by an expansion team, the New York Mets. They were 40-120--a .250 winning percentage that season. Or if you prefer. a .750 losing percentage.

Today, the first day of August, the Sox record is 27-84, a .243 winning percentage. Don't expect a turnaround, because the White Sox traded away most of their best players before last month's trade deadline. Don't giggle, they had some good ones. Those relative ex-Sox stars include starting pitcher Erick Fedde, third baseman Paul DeJong, outfielder Eloy Jiménez, and relief pitcher Michael Kopech, were swapped for prospects.

The last two players are important, as they were prospects acquired for star Sox players several years ago in other "white flag" trades. And as bad as the South Siders have been so far in 2024, getting even worse seems all but certain.

Now it's time for geeky baseball stats. On this day, August 1, 2024, the all-time White Sox regular season win-loss record is 9580-9575. To blast out the obvious, since 1901, overall, the South Siders are a mere five games over .500.

In the spring of '01, William McKinley was president. There were only 45 states.

Sometime this month, perhaps as soon as next week, the Sox will be below .500--possibly for the first time ever--in their cumulative 124 years.

I don't have the time or the math skills to prove my point, but the South Siders--until the Black Sox scandal broke in 1920--were among baseball's elite. There were mediocre until the 1950s--and then quite good until that end of the '60s. More mediocrity followed, along with some successful seasons. Most recently, the Sox were the American League Central Division champions in 2021.

Also, keep in mind that the White Sox, until perhaps now, haven't had a prolonged stretch of awfulness, along the lines of legendary losers such as the St. Louis Browns or the Washington Senators

So my guess is probably correct.

This is an historic season for the Chicago White Sox in so many ways.

Van Morrison - Double Bind (Official Audio)

During the oppressive early years of this decade, Van Morrison was one of the few musicians to fight back against the COVID lockdowns. Eric Clapton--who recorded a couple of Morrison songs--was another.

On is fabulous triple vinyl album from 2021, Van the Man relates on the totalitarianism of the time in "Double Bind."
It’s always the opposite of what they say
'Cause they know people are easy prey
Have to police everyone’s mind
Nowadays you have to be careful of everything you say
But it’s all by design
That’s why we have to break the double bind.

Radios In Motion - XTC

The Republican National Convention concluded 85 miles north of me in Milwaukee on Thursday.

It was a big success for the GOP--even some liberals admit it as the Republicans renominated Donald J. Trump.

Back to Milwaukee. Other than country songs about beer, I couldn't think of any songs that mention Milwaukee.

Except for one, "Radios in Motion" from XTC's debut album, White Music. Wisconsin's largest city got a shout out because XTC's frontman and principal songwriter, Andy Partridge, had an aunt who lived there.

This is a different XTC that you might be used to. Lead guitarist Dave Gregory didn't join his fellow Swindononians until the band's third effort, Drums and Wires. Greatness followed.

Prior to Gregory joining, Barry Andrews played, in a rather bizarre fashion, keyboards.

The pre-Gregory XTC had a punk sound, although it's more post-punk. That is, if such a thing existed in 1978.

36 shot, six fatally in Chicago over weekend; one mass shooting

A week after the quite bloody July 4 weekend in Chicago, 36 people were shot in the city this weekend, six of them died. There was one mass shooting where four people wounded.

Biden supporter and possible replacement JB Pritzker caught on hot mic sounding skeptical about Biden's election chances

In a conversation that his office admitted was about the presidential race, Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker, a possible replacement at the top of the Democratic ticket, was caught on a hot mic sounding pessimistic about the November election.

“We’re just going to keep fighting. I don’t know what to say,” the billionaire Chicago Dem said. “We’re going to do what we have to do. I don’t like where we are.” Pritzker has been, publicly at least, an ardent supporter of the failing Biden reelection effort. NBC Chicago captured the audio.

The event he was attending--along with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson--deserves a mention. It was another one of those corporate events where guilty white Chicago area CEOs pledged money to fight violence.

That will make them feel better, although my guess is that Chicago crime will continue get worse.

At least 103 shot and 19 killed in Chicago over long July 4 weekend; four mass shootings

Mayor Brandon Johnson's so-called crime-fighting strategy, which includes the use of "violence interrupters," isn't working.

Over the long Independence Day holiday, at least 103 people were shot--19 of them fatally.

There were four mass shootings. An eight-year-old boy, Bryson Orr, was slain in one of them.

CWB Chicago reports that Deputy Mayor of Community Safety Garien Gatewood, who appeared at a weekend press conference about the carnage, ducked a question regarding whether the city's anti-crime policies are working. After Johnson, who once supported the Defund the Police movement, appointed Gatewood to that position, a statement issued by the city said he would "lead cross-government efforts to eradicate the root causes of crime and violence, and advance a comprehensive, healing-centered approach to public safety."

So far--no good.

Two months ago, Larry Snelling, Johnson's pick to lead the Chicago Police Department, said that the city was short 2,000 police officers.

He didn't comment on "violence interrupters."

Chicago police conduct 'mass arrest' in Lakeview following Pride parade

Chicago's decline and fall continues.

"They said pride," WGN-TV's Brónagh Tumulty says here, "before the fall." She said it, not me.

Over 50 people were arrested, some with felonies, after what appears to have been a nighttime riot after Sunday's Pride Parade in Lakeview.

But Cook County's catch-and-release alleged prosecutor, Kim Foxx, very well may drop all of the charges. It is her nature.

The Democrat National Convention comes to the West Side next month.

Look out.

At least 35 shot and 4 killed over weekend in Chicago; Pride Parade riot?

June is over and people are still shooting each other in Chicago. Over the past weekend, four people were shot to death and at least 31 others wounded.

Of the fatalities, three were the result of an early Sunday morning argument in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

The night before, a man was shot to death in Humboldt Park on the Northwest Side.

Also of note was the Pride Parade. Sunday afternoon, in the Lakeview neighborhood on the North Side, the annual Pride Parade took place. But the party continued into early morning where the police said a "mass arrest" occurred. Details are still trickling in, but it appears what happened was a riot.

Next month, the Democrat National Convention comes to Chicago.

Just saying.

36 shot over weekend in Chicago, five of them killed, of those shot five were under 18 and two of them died

In the land of the no-cash bail SAFE-T Act, Illinois, particularly its largest city, Chicago, violence is the norm.

Mark Dice on Biden: They're getting very worried

The mainstream media in panicking over Joe Biden's senility.

On a very hot day many Chicago cooling centers are closed because of Juneteenth

A few days ago, as a heat wave was about to hit Chicago, municipal officials touted the many cooling centers available to the vulnerable population.

Today is Juneteenth, a federal, state, and municipal holiday.

I'm working today, but they's another story. Also not taking today off is the aforementioned heat wave.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s. And many of these cooling centers are close because of Juneteenth.

From the Chicago Sun-Times:
“It’s extremely alarming that we are shrinking our cooling centers in the middle of a heat wave,” said state Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, who represents Chicago’s Northwest Side and advocates for the homeless and other vulnerable populations.
This week, the city established six cooling centers for those who need to escape the dangerous temperatures because they don’t have air conditioning and are susceptible to heat-induced illness.
On Wednesday, only one of those centers, the Garfield Community Service Center at 10 S. Kedzie Ave., will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. despite another forecast for an extremely hot day.
City officials have also advised people to seek shelter at Chicago’s more than 80 public libraries this week, but all those locations will be closed for the day as well.

Happy Juneteenth! Fortunately, Chicago Park District buildings will be open.

Oh, why are Chicago's public libraries closed on holidays? On--sorry if you are woke--minor holidays like Juneteenth, Chicago's libraries should be open.

Bob Dylan - Day of the Locusts (Official Audio)

As northern Illinois continues to revel in cicada mania and the emergence of Brood XIII. So, I continue my spell of insect related tunes with Bob Dylan's "Day of the Locusts."

Wrongly, cicadas are sometimes called locusts, but cicadas are a different species.

The backstory of this song, which is the second cut on Dylan's album from 1970, New Morning, is that Dylan was at Princeton University, where he was to receive an honorary degree. But Bob didn't enjoy that experience but was he much more enthusiastic about the singing for Brood X of the 17-year cicadas.
And the locusts sang off in the distance
Yeah, the locusts sang such a sweet melody
Oh, the locusts sang off in the distance
Yeah, the locusts sang, and they were singing for me.
The Brood XIII locusts are singing here. It's beautiful.

Ten killed, including 5-year old girl, and at least 29 others wounded in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend

The first weekend of summer just ended, and it was a particularly bloody one in Chicago. Ten people were murdered--nine of them after being shot. One person was stabbed to death.

Among the murdered was a 5-year-old girl who was shot to death while sitting in a parked car at 3:30am Sunday on the West Side.

While of course this murder is a tragedy, I have to ask: Why wasn't this girl home in bed at that time?

At least 29 others were wounded in shootings across the city.

An 11th person was killed in a police shooting. Cops shot the now-deceased male as he was stabbing another man.

One dead, at least 44 others wounded over weekend in Chicago, one mass shooting

At least 45 people were shot over45 people were shot over the past weekend in Chicago, one fatally.

That's an astounding number of shootings, but sadly, it is not surprising. Violence becomes more common as the temperatures rise, but there's a difference in 2024. Brandon Johnson--Chicago's anti-cop mayor--has been in office for a year now. Worse, this might have been the warmest weekend since the pro-criminal no-cash bail SAFE-T Act went into effect.

Chicago cops shut down DePaul's pro-Hamas encampment

There goes down another one.

And this anti-violence protest was violent, according to DePaul University's president.

From NBC Chicago:

A Pro-Palestinian encampment at DePaul University in Chicago's' Lincoln Park neighborhood was dismantled by Chicago Police early Thursday morning as school officials released a statement saying the nearly 20-day encampment had led to "the disruption of university operations, interference with student learning, and safety threats to individuals and the public."

"Since the encampment began on April 30, the situation has steadily escalated with physical altercations, credible threats of violence from people not associated with our community, an inability for the other members of our community to take part in the core academic experiences on our campus, and an ever-growing series of threats to the people involved in the encampment and our community members," a statement from DePaul President Rob Manual said in part. "From the beginning of the encampment, I have said that we would protect free speech and the ability to dissent until it either prevented us from carrying out the operations of our university or threatened the safety of the members of our community. I am deeply saddened to say the encampment has crossed that line."

Manuel's statement also linked to a page that contains examples of "numerous examples of complaints of discrimination, harassment, and violence" the university received since the encampment was erected in April.

"These examples are representative of the more than 1,000 registered complaints the university received since the encampment began," the statement continued, adding that some of the examples contained material that "may be explicit or violent material that may be harmful or traumatizing."

Three dead and at least 18 wounded over weekend in Chicago; 15-year-old stabbed downtown

As Chicago prepares, sort-of, for the Democratic National Convention in August, the shootings of course continue in the city.

Over this past weekend, three people were shot to death and at least 18 others were wounded.

Regarding the homicides, a man driving was shot dead in Woodlawn on the South Side.

On early Saturday, a man having an argument was fatally shot in Park Manor at a Maxwell Street Polish. Around that same time, a man was shot to death in Chicago Lawn.

There was at least one stabbing, Sunday was a clear and beautiful day, which makes the afternoon stabbing of a 15-year-old boy who was stabbed, fortunately not fatally, in Chicago's Loop.

Until about five years ago, violence downtown was rare.

Chicago cop shot dead in uniform after shift, his car stolen

Illinois is the land of the SAFE-T Act, which abolished cash bail, the legislation is a signature achievement of Gov. JB Pritzker, who hopes to run for president one day.

Cook County has, until December, a George Soros-funded catch and release prosecutor in Kim Foxx.

Chicago's City Council has several progressive anti-cop members. Its newly elected mayor, Brandon Johnson, said in 2020 that defund the police was "a political goal."

Overnight, a 31-year-old Chicago Police officer, Luis M. Huesca, a six-year veteran of the force, was shot to death at his home in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

ShotSpotter, the gunfire detection system that Johnson and his leftist allies want to get rid of, alerted authorities of the homicide.

As Barack Obama famously said, "Elections have consequences." Chicagoans made a poor choice with Johnson. And those voters in wards with socialist alderpersons made a bad choice too.

The same goes for Pritzker and Foxx.

Six hours or so after Huesca's murder, Johnson, or more likely a staffer, issued a statement on X. In true leftist fashion, the statement blames the murder on "gun violence." Guns don't fire themselves; a thug pulled the trigger. In lefty-world, on one is ever at fault.
