Chicago car jackings epidemic: Nearly 200 carjackings in 2021
In addition to the dramatic increase in murders courtesty of the soft-on-crime policy of State Attorney Kim Foxx, the reputed prosecutor of criminals in Chicago and its inner suburbs, we have a car-jacking epidemic. So far this year there have nearly 200 carjackings in Chicago, that's about seven a day.
Last night two people here carjacked on the same block.
Don't blame me. I voted for Republican Pat O'Brien for state's attorney.
Cuomo accused by own state's attorney general of covering up COVID-19 nursing home deaths
Governor Andrew Cuomo's decision to send New Yorkers with COVID-19 to nursing homes led to thousands of unnecessary deaths.
And New York's attorney general, also a Democrat, is accusing Cuomo of minimizing the nursing home death totals in New York State from COVID by 50 percent.
Late last year, in an award the should be rescinded, Cuomo received an Emmy for his daily COVID briefings.
From NBC News:
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his administration faced a barrage of criticism in the wake of a report from his own state attorney general claiming that the state had undercounted Covid-19 nursing home deaths by as much as 50 percent.
The state's public death toll for nursing homes does not include residents who died from the coronavirus after having been transferred to hospitals, only deaths that occurred at facilities. Attorney General Letitia James' report examined 62 nursing homes — about 10 percent of the state's total — and found that New York's approach left a large number of hospital deaths out of the state's official nursing home death toll.
Advocates, researchers and lawmakers from both parties have campaigned for months for the Cuomo administration to disclose the full number of deaths associated with long-term care facilities.

There never was a Lunch Bucket Joe: Biden kills jobs
C'mon, you know the thing. "Lunch Bucket Joe," the blue collar guy from Scranton, Pennsylvania. Except Joe Biden hasn't lived in Pennsylavnia in seven decades he never was a blue collar person.
Sleepy Joe is killing good blue collar jobs.
From the New York Post:
Further dashing hopes that he’d govern as any kind of moderate, President Biden on Wednesday announced plans for what amounts to the Green New Deal by another name, at a cost of roughly $2 trillion and millions of jobs. The left pretends its dreams will boost employment, but the reality is already on display. Biden’s Day One canceling of the Keystone XL pipeline put thousands out of work immediately; longer-term, it aborted some 11,000 jobs, mostly for union workers. Also in his first day, the new prez ordered a 60-day suspension of new drilling permits for US lands and water, supposedly to allow for review of the impact. But on Wednesday he made much of that ban permanent, so plainly the science doesn’t really matter. Then again, science isn’t mattering a lot to Joe: In the absence of Keystone, Canada will still export its oil — transporting it by less-environmentally friendly rail. What’s green about that?

What the media is calling a "pause" by Biden on new oil and gas leases on public lands is a ban as long as Democrats are in power
The public relations ring of the Democratic Party, better known as the establishment media, is of course all-in on propping up Joe Biden. Last week Biden announced a 60-day suspsension of new oil and natural gas drilling permits on federally-owned land and waters. Now the media is preparing Americans for what they are calling a "pause" in new drilling leases on these public waters and lands.
It won't be a pause--it will be a ban as long as the Democrats are in power. But of course the media--nor the Biden White House--doesn't want to all it that. They are trying to deflect blame as thousands of energy jobs are lost and gasoline prices go up.
The media and your goverment believes you are stupid. It's time to prove them wrong.

Sorry Chicago Public Schools teachers, there will always be a risk in your job
Chicago Public Schools, the nation's third-largest school system, has not conducted classroom learning since March. I'm old enough to remember when the school and business closures were supposed to last a couple of weeks or so to "flatten the curve." Now CPS teachers, who always says whatever they do is "for the kids," are demanding vaccinations for all of them. So this week they overwhelmingly voted to continue to teach from home rather than in the classroom, defying a CPS order to return to working at their schools.
Showcasing the hypocricy of the Chicago Teachers Union was Sarah Chambers, who from a Puerto Rico resort urged special education teachers not to return. While she says she tested negative she previously tested positive for COVID. Chambers is a member of the CTU executive board.
Hello teachers. There will always be a risk in going to work, such as automobile accidents on your way to school, and yes, getting ill. And during the lockdown I worked from home for a few days. It's a nice gig. There's no commute and no wear-and-tear on your vehicle or public transporation expenses.
Be for the kids. Return to work.

Now lockdowns are being eased up in blue states such as Illinois.
And CNN, as Tucker Carlrson reports, took down its COVID death ticker that has been on its screen for months.

Biden will cancel Keystone XL pipeline, Canada not happy
The Democrats are the anti-energy party. During the last presidential debate Joe Biden said our nation will "transtion out of" fossil rules. The left's Green New Deal is doesn't make sense even if you suspend belief to Gilligan's Island levels.
After Biden is sworn in as president tomorrow he'll sign en executive order cancelling the Keystone XL pipeline, handing the Republicans the first issue for the 2024 presidential campaign.

Another reason to flee Chicago: Warning tickets from speeding cameras begin today for driving over 6 mph, fines coming soon
Chicago's South Side |
Beginning today drivers in Chicago who are caught driving only 6 miles-per-hour over the speed limit will receive a warning. The prior threshold was 10 mph. On March 1 the 6-10 mph crowd will receive a $35 ticket. Those motorists caught on camera will continue to receive a $100 fine. Later in that '19 presser Mayor Beetlejuice promised to "sunset" Chicago's omnipresent red light cameras, stating that the fines issued from those red light violations "fall disproportionately on people of color." Where is that sunset?

Speaker-for-life Madigan ousted in Illinois
It's all over but the formalites. The man who destroyed Illinois, longtime Speaker of the state House Michael Madigan (D-Chicago), who has held the post for all but two years since 1983, willl not be reelected. Boss Madigan has also been chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party since 1998.
Replacing him will be suburban Chicago state Rep. Chris Welch. He's not a prize either but this is still great news for the remaning decent citizens of Illinois.
The state Republican Party, an ineffective opponent of Madigan had this to say about Madigans ousting of about Welch in, you gussed it, a press release:
In Madigan’s stead, they have promoted a serial harasser and assaulter of women. But in spite of that, Welch passed the most important test this fall - he’s been a loyal Madigan ally for years but performed most recently as Madigan’s human shield in legislative hearings investigating the sweeping corruption scandal that ultimately brought Madigan down. For uears the right-leaning think tank, the Illinois Policy Institute, led attack on Madigan. Chicago City Council member fined record $145,500 for improper campaign contributions
Austin street banners in her ward in 2016 |
Ald. Carrie Austin is a walking example of unethical behavior.
From WTTW:
The Chicago Board of Ethics fined Ald. Carrie Austin $145,500 for accepting $48,500 in excessive contributions from a person doing business with the city, in violation of city law.
The fine, approved by a unanimous vote Monday, marks the first time the board has levied the maximum fine allowed for violations of the city’s campaign finance law — three times the amount of the improper campaign contributions.
Austin, the second-longest serving alderman on the City Council, did not respond to a request for comment from WTTW News on Tuesday morning.
Companies and people doing business with the city are limited to contributing $1,600 to any one candidate per year, according to the city’s campaign finance ordinance. Two years ago the FBI raided her ward office. Until last year Austin was the Democratic committeewoman of the 34th Ward.

Chicago Tribune offices leaving downtown
After over 170 years of having its headquarters in downtown Chicago, the city's oldest and largest newspaper, the Chicago Tribune, once a conservative firebrand but now, with a few exceptions like John Kass, part of the liberal echo chamber, is moving. True, it's not that far away, to the River West area south of Goose Island, but it's a warehousey section of the city, away from the remaining glamor of the city center.
For nearly 100 years the Trib was based in the Tribune Tower on North Michigan Avenue--eighteen months ago it moved a few blocks south to Prudential Plaza.
"The Tribune’s departure adds to the expanding number of vacancies plaguing the city’s downtown office market," the Real Deal explains. "Companies have been subleasing their space — or trying to — trimming or exiting their leases at a steady clip. Office vacancy rate climbed to 14.2 percent in the central business district in the fourth quarter."Second City Cop blog missing
Could be this move be part of the purge against conservatives? CWB Chicago, a great blog, reports that another Second City Cop, is now offline, except for the message that the blog is "open to invited readers only."
Last fall the authors, current and former Chicago Police officers, said that Google-owned Blogger.com, which I use to host Marathon Pundit, issued them a warning about their content.
Or it's possible, CWB Chicago speculates, that they pressed a wrong settings button--I've done that--or they are simply burned out.
Second City Cop offered a unique perspective of life as a police officer in Chicago with a decided conservative flavor, along with well-deserved criticism of Chicago mayors, particularly the inept Lori Lightfoot, who they refer to as Groot.

Is this the end of Boss Madigan? Illinois' speaker-for-life suspends campaign
llinois House Speaker Michael Madigan announced he is suspending his campaign for a 19th term as speaker Monday.
The longest-serving leader of a legislative body in U.S. history, Madigan said in a statement: “this is not a withdrawal. I have suspended my campaign for speaker.”
The man nicknamed the “Velvet Hammer” acknowledged that he does not currently have enough support among fellow House Democrats to keep his gavel.
“As I have said many times in the past, I have always put the best interest of the House Democratic Caucus and our members first,” Madigan said. That's a lie. Madigan, who has been a member of the General Assembly since 1971 and who has been speaker of the state house since 1983--except for two happy years--has also served as chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party since 1998. He's the midwife of the Illinois pension crisis. And his primary interest has always been himself and his circle of sycophantic cronies.

Parler offline, the purge of conservatives continues
Parler, a social media app popular with conservatives and supporters of President Donald Trump, has gone offline after Amazon withdrew its support in the wake of the deadly U.S. Capitol riot last week.
The app was reliant on cloud computing power provided by Amazon Web Services. AWS told Parler on Saturday that it will no longer provide cloud services to the company beginning on Sunday at 11:59 p.m. PT, according to an email obtained by CNBC.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the authenticity of the letter to CNBC, but declined to comment further. John Matze, the founder and CEO, said in a statement on Monday that the Parler app will be down “longer than expected” because other cloud hosting companies do not want to work with Parler in light of the press statements issued by Amazon, Google and Apple.

Former Chicago alderman heading to jail
Once every 18 months or so a Chicago alderman is sentenced to federal prison. I know of no other legislative body with such a shameful record. Now we have a former member of the City Council--keep in mind he's not been convicted of anything--on his way to Chicago's notorious Cook County Jail.

Mob storms US Capitol, 1 woman shot to death
First of all without reservations I condone the mob the stormed inside the US Capitol. No amount of anger allows it. I'm shocked that this happened--I expect much better behavior from patriots.
Clearly President Trump's talk of a "rigged" election angered the protesters. And this was not a peaceful protest. There were numerous irregularities in the November count, mail-in balloting among added to the problems but I am not convinced this chicanery would have swayed the count to change the results. Dishonest reporting from the media is another matter, But the president should have conceded a long time ago.
But now the media is claiming that Trump "incited" the protesters. That's a stretch.
One woman, Ashli Babbit, a 14-year Air Force veteran, was shot to death during the melee. Keep her in your prayers.
Chicago Magnificent Mile exodus continues: Macy's moving out of Water Tower Place

Devil went down to Georgia: Warnock wins, Ossoff leading
Like Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado, Georgia is a state being inundated with migrants from blue states who can't ascertain the irony of leaving places like New York, Illinois, and California that have ruined by liberal policies and then voting Democratic in their new home.
Yesterday in one of the two runoff elections in the Peach State, racist and accused spouse abuser Democrat Raphael Warnock defeated incumbent Republican Kelly Loeffler. In the other race a trust-fund brat with suspicious business ties to the Chinese Communist Party, Joe Ossoff, has a slight lead over the other GOP incumbent, David Perdue. Joe Awful has declared victory but the media says the race is too close to call.
These close races are like a predictable B-movie serial. The hero of the left, in this case Ossoff, will end up firmly on top in the end.
That will put the Democrats, with Kamala "Fweedom" Harris as a tie-breaking vote, in control of the Senate.
Ugh.
In two years Raphael Warlock will face voters again as his race was to fill an unexpried term. Georgia and the rest of America is stuck with Awful for six.

Kamala Harris accused of plagiarizing MLK
Come to think about, Sleepy Joe Biden is a plagiarist too.
From Fox News:
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has previously told the anecdote about her younger self crying out for "Fweedom!" — which has sparked accusations of plagiarism — in her books.
"My mother used to laugh when she told the story about a time I was fussing as a toddler: She leaned down to me and asked, 'Kamala, what's wrong? What do you want?' And I wailed back, 'Fweedom,'" Harris wrote in her 2010 book "Smart on Crime."
Harris also detailed her younger self demanding "Fweedom!" in her 2019 book "The Truths We Hold: An American Journey."
Harris apparently appropriated an anecdote first told by civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. when she was interviewed by Elle Magazine for a feature that was published in October, at the height of the 2020 presidential election race.
So it turns out Kamala Harris lifted her "Fweedom" story from a 1965 Playboy interview with Martin Luther King, by Alex Haley. Much thanks to @EngelsFreddie for spotting the similarityhttps://t.co/zDONW4Ueqs pic.twitter.com/yQuWZHYEMz

Kenosha cop won't face charges in Jacob Blake shooting
Car dealership after the August Kenosha riots |
The officer who fired, Rusten Sheskey, could successfully argue self-defense before a jury, Graveley said during a Tuesday news conference.
His decision was based on evidence that could not be seen on cellphone video of the incident, which showed Sheskey shooting Blake, 29, as he got into a vehicle with his children inside. Blake, who was shot in the back, was left paralyzed.
The video, which was widely shared on social media, sparked protests, vandalism and arson. Sheriff deputies in riot gear and protesters face off outside the Kenosha Police Department on Aug. 23, 2020, after an officer shot Jacob Blake.
"It’s a narrow task today, it’s a legal and professional task," Graveley said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference. "If you don’t believe you can prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt, you have an ethical obligation not to issue charges."
