GOP state legislator seeks Reagan statue at Illinois state capitol

Henry, IL
A state senator whose district is home to several Ronald Reagan Trail towns--Galesburg, Chillicothe, Henry, and Princeton--wants to erect a statue of "Dutch" outside of the state capitol.

From the Southern Illinoisan:
Illinois lawmakers are looking to commemorate Ronald Reagan with a statue of the former president on the grounds of the state capitol.

State Sen. Darin LaHood, R-Dunlap, began the push for a memorial project on Wednesday, asking lawmakers and state officials for their support.

"Everyone knows about our extensive Lincoln heritage and President Grant's military prowess," LaHood said. "But they often forget that Ronald Reagan is the only Illinois-born man to reach the White House."
Here's the part Reagan would just love:
With the state facing financial troubles, LaHood said he doesn't intend to fund the project with taxpayer dollars.
