Global warming news: Killer ice storm punishes South; Lake Superior to freeze over

Lake Michigan last month
In today's global warming news, Georgia is preparing for an ice storm that the National Weather Service calls "crippling" and one of "historical proportions." The storm has already killed four in Texas.

On the other side of the nation, Lake Superior will probably completely freeze over, which hasn't happened since 1996.

Closer to home--well, for me--Lake Michigan's ice cover has grown dramatically in the last few days. And as they did last night, temperatures in Chicago are expected to go below zero. The city is expected to set a record for most below-zero days in a winter.
