Skokie Holocaust Memorial on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

A rare--for this part of the nation--a sleet storm was appropriate today in Skokie, Illlinois, where at one time 8,000 survivors of the Shoah lived. But of course the bite of sleet can't possibly match the horrors that the victims of the Holocaust suffered from.

Pictured here is the Skokie Holocaust Memorial.

"In memory of the six million Jews and all other victims who perished at the hands of the Nazis" are among the inscriptions at the base of the monument.

It was on this day in 1945 that Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army.
