First teachers, then musicians: Chicago Symphony Orchestra goes on strike

Michigan Avenue--Chicago
Taking an off-key cue from the Chicago Teachers Union, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra went on strike tonight. This evening's concert was cancelled after negotiations broke down--at 6:15pm. As symphony patrons just don't show up before a concert--I mean, they're not seeing a movie at the mall--my guess is that ticket holders didn't learn of the cancellation until they walked to Orchestra Hall on Michigan Avenue after dining in the Loop.

Oh yes, I have attended a few CSO performances.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association president called it a "sad night" for the orchestra.

And for Chicago.

There's an upside: The striking musicians will have some class at least. Unlike the Chicago Teachers Union picketers, the CSO  performers won't be wearing matching T-shirts while chanting hackneyed left wing slogans.
