Pat Quinn officially announces gubernatorial run

Illinois Governor Patrick Quinn officially announced his intention to run for a full term this morning.

The Democrat kicked off his bid at Chicago's Allegro Hotel, which, when it was the Bismarck, was a frequent venue for press conference during his days as a consumer advocate. Quinn is now taking part in the traditional across the state fly-around--essentially giving the same speech for the edification of other media markets.

That speech does not mention that he twice ran as the running mate of Rod Blagojevich--the disgraced fellow Chicagoan who is now under indictment on corruption charges. Quinn in 2006 said that Blago "always (has) been a person who's honest and one of integrity."

Opposing Quinn in February's Democratic primary is another Chicagoan, state Comptroller Dan Hynes.
