Another Chicagoan's take on the 'Greatest senator of our time'

Speaking at the the funeral for Senator Edward Kennedy, President Obama declared that Teddy was the "Greatest senator of our time."

After the Jack Ryan sex-club scandal derailed his Senate campaign, "Da Coach," Mike Ditka, toyed with the idea of taking his place on the ballot.

A Chicago Republican, Ditka just might have been the only candidate who could have stipped the ball from the Obama express in 2004.

Here's what the Hall of Famer said at the time about Teddy:

Indeed, in an interview on WGN-TV, Ditka said that despite never seeking public office, he could "be a better senator then Ted Kennedy," the veteran Democrat from Massachusetts. "I didn't have any experience of head coaching when I took over the Bears, either, so that's bull," he said.

Just think...if the Coach of America had run for the Senate....and won.

Things would be a lot different now.
