Nearly $1 trillion deficit in first six months of fiscal year 2009

The federal government's fiscal year 2009 began on October 1 of last year, and in those six months, our men and women in Washington have added almost $1 trillion to the national debt. To be fair to our current president, George W. Bush was in charge for the first three-and-a-half months of FY 2009, and the current budget is a Bush budget. However, the Democrats had majorities--since expanded upon--during that time.

But Bush's spending appears to be just a warm-up act for Barack Obama, who believes we can spend our way out of the recession.
