Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan just appeared on the Fox News Channel, and told the cable network that she is Candidate 2 cited in court documents as a possible replacement for Barack Obama in the US Senate.
Madigan, daughter of Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, has never been close to the disgraced governor. All three are Chicago Democrats.
Rumored to be interested in a gubernatorial run in 2010, Madigan says she was never interested in the position, and even if she was, there was no chance that Blagojevich would have appointed her. Her father, who is chairman of the state Democratic Party, has openly feuded with Blagojevich for years.
The same can't be said for outgoing state Senate President Emil Jones, who, you guessed it, is a Chicago Democrat. Jones has been Blagojevich's closest ally in Springfield since Blago was inaugurated in 2003. The South Sider was a candidate (which number?) to replace Obama.
Emil Jones was Obama's mentor in the state Senate.
