Sir Bin Laden?

Great Britain, which of course has a new head of government today, honored author and human rights spokesman Salman Rushdie with a well-deserved knighthood last week.

It seems that the Brits were a bit surprised that some people, actually just Muslims, but some people were unhappy with this honor. Mark Steyn writes about that here.

Pakistan's chief noisemaker against the Rushdie honor is Senator Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, the scowling man in the picture. In a conversation with Islam Online.net, he suggests matching that honor in a repulsive manner:

"Any protest against the British government is useless. They will not listen to any logic," Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, a prominent scholar and chairman of the Senate religious affairs committee, told IslamOnline.net.

He suggested that instead of protesting the British decision world Muslims should confer the title of "Sir" on Bin Laden and Taliban's leader Mullah Omer.

"In response to this step, Muslims should confer the title of Sir to bin Laden and Mullah Omer," he opined.

"The world will see the reaction of western countries if Muslims honor Bin Laden and Mullah Omer as British government did with Rushdie."

IslamOnline.net referrred to Osama bin Laden as "Al-Qaeda leader." In that role, for those people who've not been keeping up with the news since Bill Clinton's re-election, he's proven to be one of the world's most prolific mass-murderers, one who would surely join the top-tier of killers such as Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, and Josef Stalin if he had the apparatus of a functioning government available to him.

Senator Haq is a turd--in fact, I'm bestowing the honor of Turd Haq on the man in the funny hat.
