‘Weird’ Walz’s humiliated by heckling while Trump is cheered by roaring crowds

Tim Walz was heckled while making an appearance at the Minnesota-Michigan game in Ann Arbor.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump was cheered at the Alabama-Georgia game.

And did Tampon Tim flip the bird to hecklers?

Van Morrison with Willie Nelson: What's Wrong with this Picture?

Van Morrison is back with another album, New Arrangements and Duets, which was released Friday.

The Belfast Cowboy has made a lot of enemies in the media because of his strident--and correct--stand against COVID-19 lockdowns.

These versions were recorded over decades. Morrison has been busy releasing material--some new and some old--and predictably, the media is attacking him for that.

Would the prefer all his archived work be issued, wily-nily, after his death? The ghouls tainted the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and so many more artists.

What a bunch of losers, the media is. That is why when a newspaper or a magazine folds, I shed no tears. The media doesn't tell the story, it tells their story.  That is why readers are turning out.

Back to Van the Man.

The album is jazzy with a big band sound. And among the duets are two songs with Willie Nelson.

"What's Wrong with this Picture?" is one of them. It is graced with countrified slide guitar. Nelson and Morrison have different vocal styles, which is why this track works.

And this song, which was originally released in 2003, contains subtle attacks on the media.

This edition of "What's Wrong with this Picture?" was recorded in the late 2010s.

Newt Gingrich: It's beginning to sink in that Kamala Harris isn't telling the truth

The moment Kamala Harris ‘glitched’ during MSNBC interview

Besides corporate taxes--what other taxes does she want to raise?

Probably yours.

There's a reason that Kamala Harris rarely does interviews--and when she does, it's always with a sympathetic so-called journalist.

Van Morrison: Autumn Song

Sunday is the first day of Autumn.

In honor of the change of season, here is Van Morrison's "Autumn Song." It's a preview--although a long one--of the Belfast Cowboy's later jazz-influenced work.

Nick Lowe - "The Beast In Me" (Official Audio)

Next week, Nick Lowe will release a new album.

While, at least in America, he's best known as a producer, Elvis Costello and Graham Parker were among the artists he's worked with, he's also a recording artist in his own right.

Here's a great one Lowe composition, "The Beast in Me," which his father-in-law, Johnny Cash, also recorded. You may have heard Lowe's version on The Sopranos.

We'll all have a dark side.

Chicago Sun-Times editorial board member Rummana Hussain on Tulsi Gabbard: "She's a white woman"

Donald Trump received some blowback, probably somewhat deserved, when he said that Kamala Harris "happened to turn black" recently.

Although she isn't a candidate for president, Rummana Hussain. She's a columnist at the Sun-Times, and she has been a member of the Chicago Sun-Times editorial board since 2021. So, she's got some influence. But not with me.

Race apparently is a big deal with Hussain. While a guest on the Ben Joravsky Show podcast in July, she revealed to the host that a job at the Sun-Times a while back was only for a minority. I believe that race-based hiring is illegal.

On last Saturday's Joravsky show, Hussain, who is Indian, weighed in on former Democratic member of the House of Representatives, Tulsi Gabbard, who is now an independent. Last month she endorsed Trump for president.

Hussain, who represented Hawaii in Congress, was born in American Samoa to a white woman and a Samoan father. To her credit Gabbard doesn't talk much about her ethnicity--I would consider her mixed race.

But Hussain says the former congresswoman is white. "Her parents are white," Hussain remarked to Joravasky,"like she's white, she's a white woman." Look for this inflammatory comment around the seven-minute park.

I can only imagine the uproar if a conservative podcaster or radio host said something similar.

31 shot, five fatally, over Labor Day weekend in Chicago; fatalities may go up by four after 4 homeless people found shot dead on CTA train in suburbs

The first holiday weekend after Chicago, with surprisingly few problems, hosted the Democratic National Convention, saw relatively few shootings.

That might change, but more on that soon.

During the four-day July 4 weekend, an astounding 109 people were shot--nine of those victims died.

For Labor Day, as of early afternoon on Tuesday, just 31 people were shot over the three-day weekend, five of them were killed.

However, early Labor Day morning, four people, three men and one woman, who were apparently homeless and asleep, were found dead from gunshot wounds at the end of the CTA Blue Line in west-suburban Forest Park. It's unclear though, where these train passengers were shot. Nearly all of the Blue Line runs through Chicago. It's possible that the Chicago shooting and fatality numbers for the Labor Day may increase by four if it's found they were shot within Chicago's city limits.

A suspect in the Blue Line murders is in police custody.

When the DNC was in town, I rode CTA trains several times and I was presently surprised how peaceful it was. There was a heavy police presence on the CTA and on the train platforms. The prior times I took CTA trains I encountered crazy people every time.

Chicago can do better if it wants to do so.
