On this day in 1767--yes, 250 years ago, the Mason-Dixon line was completed. Two Englishmen--at the time America and Great Britain were one country--journeyed to the New World to survey the disputed border between the Maryland and Pennsylvania colonies. There were marks the current boundaries between four states: Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia.
Watch and listen as Mark Knopfler sings the best song--and perhaps the only one--about the Mason-Dixon line, "Sailing to Philadelphia."
