Only five Detroit schools were shut down today because of a teacher sick-out. Teacher strikes are illegal in Michigan.

In related news, Mayor Mike Duggan toured some dilapidated schools yesterday and found the experience "heartbreaking." But Duggan has no control of Detroit's schools, they've been run by an emergency manager because for seven years because of long-time malfeasance within Detroit Public Schools.

In another related story, news broke yesterday that a Maserati-driving former Detroit high school principal, Kenyetta Wilbourn Snapp, will plead guilty for participating in a DPS kickback scandal.
