On this day in 1980: Reagan wins presidency in landslide

Reagan statue, Dixon, IL
It was morning again in American on November 4, 1980 when the greatest president of the 20th century, Ronald Reagan, was swept into office in an historic landslide, sending the hapless Jimmy Carter and his malaise packing.

Among other things, the Gipper kickstarted an economic boom, interrupted by two minor recessions, that lasted nearly three decades. Reagan also put into place the pieces that saw the end of the Cold War--which we won and the Evil Empire lost.

Thank you President Reagan for making America great again.
