(Photo) Renaissance Center from the abandoned Fisher Body 21 plant

For decades Fisher Body was a division of General Motors--it was a coachbuilder for the automotive giant.

In 1919, the same year GM purchased 60 percent of Fisher--the company opened the Fisher Body 21 plant on Piquette Avenue in Detroit. Seven years later General Motors bought the rest of the firm. The factory closed in 1984. Easily seen from I-94 and I-75, it is one of Detroit's best known ruins.

In the meantime, from the fifth floor of the abandoned plant you can see if you look closely the Renaissance Center, which is now the international headquarters of GM.
