Rahm bites Chuy as he wins a second term

Chicago River
Chicago voters voted for what passes today as a standard liberal in Rahm Emanuel for mayor, although the incumbent as of this writing collected only 56 percent of the vote. That means 44 percent of Chicagoans voted for leftist Jesus "Chuy" Garcia.

The problems of America's third-largest city are immense. Chicago has one of America's highest murder rates, a nationally-known reputation for corruption, and it is burdened by a massive unfunded pension liability. Perhaps I missed it, but I don't believe Emanuel addressed any of those Chicago millstones during tonight's victory speech.

Still, Chicagoans are better off with Rahm on the Fifth Floor of City Hall than Chuy. Progressives are only good at creating new problems that they will claim only higher taxes will solve. Of course it is very likely Rahm will raise taxes--but Garcia would have raised them even higher.
