Venality: Teamster boss who took bribes to block unionization drive fined $18K

Ya gotta just hate the Teamsters...

As always, look for the mainstream media to ignore this story, which involves a labor boss screwing over his own union.

From MLive.com:
A former Teamster trustee who admitted to taking bribes for preventing union organization at a Detroit produce supplier was sentenced Friday to two years of supervised release and an $18,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Michael Townsend, a former business agent and trustee of Teamsters Local 337, pleaded guilty in December 2013 to taking prohibited payments as a labor union employee, according to court records.

Townsend, 69, of Dearborn Heights, admitted after a U.S. Labor Department investigation to taking quarterly payments of $1,500 from June 2005 to July 2008, "to preclude and prevent any attempts by the defendant to organize the employees of LaGrasso Brothers Produce," according to court documents.
The grocer was fined $500,000.
