On this day in 1972: "18½ minute gap" Watergate conversation occurs

It was on June 20, 1972--three days after the Watergate break-in--that a conversation between President Richard M. Nixon and his chief-of-staff, H.R. Haldeman, took place in the Oval Office. It's widely believed that one of the topics of their meeting was the break-in at the Watergate, where the Democratic National Committee's headquarters were based at the time. Part of their talk, the now notorious "18½ minute gap," was erased.

Over four decades later, emails involving IRS bullying of conservative groups were accidentally erased and the tax agency Nixon also used to attack his enemies says that no back up of the emails exist.
