D-Day 70 years later

The largest amphibious assault in history--and maybe forever--occurred on this day 70 years ago. D-Day was far from being a guaranteed success--bad weather, an intelligence breach, and an earlier deployment of the V-1 flying bombs and V-2 rockets could have doomed the Anglo-American-Canadian invasion of Europe.

But when the soldiers landed on five beaches in Normandy June 6, 1944, months of planning meant little to these men. The only plan they had once they got out of saltwater was to move forward.

And they did.

Thank you, men of D-Day.
